August is National Wellness Month and it’s a great reminder that we need to find healthy ways to manage stress and practice self-care on a daily basis.
What exactly is wellness?
Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better physical and mental health outcomes so that instead of surviving, you are thriving.

Practicing self-care can be as simple as creating a spa day at home, or even taking a few moments to paint your nails. For others, spending time outside gardening or going for a long walk is enough to improve the way you feel. Either way, it’s all about making small changes that will have big results in your everyday life.
Wellness Tips
Here are easy ways to practice wellness and self care this month as well as all year round.
- Write in a gratitude journal – Start by writing at least one thing that you’re grateful for every day. If you can, think of at least three things.
- Spend time in prayer or meditation – It can help you think more clearly and feel more at peace.
- Drink lots of water – Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water to keep from getting dehydrated which can make you sluggish among other things.
- Eat healthy foods – Remember garbage in, garbage out.
- Get up and move something – Go for a walk, a bike ride, or dance for 20 minutes to your favorite jams.
- Be sure to get enough sleep – Good sleep helps you feel well rested which improves your mood and immune system.
- Take a me day or mental health day when you need it.
Remember, self-care isn’t selfish. In fact it’s necessary for your health and wellness. By practicing these daily acts of self care, it will lead to life of wellness.
