Ways to Cope With Stress

We are living in stressful times and many of us are experiencing more stress than normal. It’s time to take an honest look at how we can reduce stress.

My personal stress story

My husband recently had a stroke and it has been extremely stressful on me as our roles have switched and I have a lot more responsibilities for caring for our family. It honestly has put a lot of weight on my shoulders. So much so, I noticed that my blood pressure has been elevated. I immediately knew that I had to make some very real changes so that stress doesn’t overwhelm me.

Ways to cope with stress

Since April is Stress Awareness Month, I wanted to share a few tips for coping with stress that I have personally started to use in my own life.

Go to the Doctor

First things first, for me a trip to my doctor was the first thing I needed to do.

Take deep breaths

While this is one of the easiest and quickest ways to reduce stress, I admit that this is one that is hard for me to remember. My son has been telling me for years that deep breaths are good for your mind as well as your body.

Start exercising

One of my favorite ways to deal with stress is to take a walk. There’s something about getting fresh air and hearing and seeing the sights and sounds of nature that helps to keep me calm. But you can go for a run, or ride your bike, just as long as you get up and move.

Prayer or meditation

Taking time to pray it’s always good idea and when we do so we actively take our concerns and problems to someone bigger than ourselves. Meditating is also an effective way to deal with stress because it helps to quiet our minds.

Listen to soothing music

As much as I love dancing around the house to hip-hop, sometimes I just need a relaxing atmosphere. Listening to jazz, or my favorite praise and worship is a great way to create a calm environment.

Drink Green Tea

Drinking green tea is easy and has health benefits and can even help lower your blood pressure.

Give yourself a little TLC

Practicing self-care is one of the best ways to reduce stress and here are a few affordable and easy ways to pamper yourself.

Relax with Dr. Teals foaming bath

Grab a Freeman Anti-stress Facemask

Try Stressballs or other natural stress relievers

I hope that these tips help you to live a stress less life for Stress Awareness month and every day!
