What an unprecedented year 2020 has been! We are all aware the many challenges it has brought our nation, world, and lives.
We spent more time inside our homes than ever before. Our schedules were thrown out the window and it forced us to get creative with our time. As I’m reflecting on 2020 I wanted to share some of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
2020 started off sadly
I should have seen the signs when Kobe Bryant died on my birthday. It was crushing to so many. I remember watching just about every single sports interview feeling sadden but inspired by all of the love so many had for Kobe and his daughter.
Then the Coronavirus pandemic hit
The coronavirus changed our way of life as we knew it. Everything shut down as way to protect the world from getting Covid 19. Some lost jobs while others unfortunately lost their lives. We were just reminiscing about how my family and I all met at Cracker Barrel for what would be the last time we could eat in a restaurant before the shutdown. My husband even said the he and my son sat in those rocking chairs talking about how they didn’t believe that the pandemic was real. Boy were they wrong.
George Floyd died
This really hit home since George Floyd was killed literally in my neighborhood. Many stores and buildings have been burnt down in my neighborhood as a result. I shared in detail how felt about the death of George Floyd and the unrest in our city here.
Sickness hit our home
The fall season brought three health events to my home that we were not prepared for. Literally one right after the other, just a week or two apart. Thankfully, God kept us through this troubled time, and brought healing and favor to our lives and I am so grateful!
There were good things about 2020 though…
2020 wasn’t all bad. Binge-watching Netflix, Tiktok challenges and Zoom meetings were all part of the new normal. Below are a few 2020 trends that I did enjoy.
Banana Bread for days
Everyone was baking homemade bread, including myself. I baked up my infamous chocolate chip banana bread quite a few times and shared my banana bread pics on Instagram.
Lounge Wear
Lounge wear became my go to stay at home outfit. I don’t think I wore real clothes but only a handful of times. This animal print lounge wear set is actually pajamas but the top is cute enough to wear on your grocery store run when you’re not online shopping.
Everyone dyed the hair at home
I’ve always dyed my hair at home but this year I embraced my natural hair and the few gray hairs that I do have.
Press on nails were a thing
So many couldn’t make it to their nail salons and many ladies were looking for ways to get salon quality nails at home and fake nails became the new trend.
Disney +
We didn’t Netflix binge but Disney + reigned in our home. My son and I tried to watch the all the Marvel movies in chronological order but we got only about half way through. We need to pick up where we left off soon. But hands down we were most excited about the Mandalorian.
Lessons 2020 Taught Me
Your plans can change
Trips can get cancelled, events and family gatherings can get postponed. Don’t let these things keep you down. Accept change and go with the flow.
Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today
Oh how I learned this lesson. I had so many things on my to do list that I put off and put off. Things like getting my teeth cleaned, going to the doctor, and so on. All things that I didn’t have the luxury of doing as easily during the pandemic.
Every day is a gift
Tomorrow is not promised to no man. We know that is a biblical truth. But in 2020 we saw this happen before our eyes. So let’s not take advantage of the time we do have. Every day is a gift from God, that’s why we call it the present.
