I'm So Proud of My Son, the 2020 Graduate!

Yesterday was a bittersweet day for me. It was my son's last day of school. My youngest, my baby, has graduated and I can't tell you enough how proud I am of him!

After 4 years of hard work, late nights, and even some tears, he has finished high school at his college preparatory school.

School has not always come easy for my son. He has had to work harder than most kids due to struggles with focus. He has had to fight labels that well-meaning individuals including teachers and principals tried put on him. Some didn't even give him a chance and gave up on him altogether. And I'm not talking about our public school system, but private school teachers. But mama never gave up on him. I knew if given the chance my son would shine.

I had to fight to get him into his prestigious high school because the previous school said he lacked motivation. After a meeting where my son fought for his own seat at the table, he got in and has never looked back.

I'm not gonna lie, the curriculum was extremely rigorous and there were many nights that I didn't know if I had made the right decision but he always came out on top and showed me that yes, I had made the right decision and with God on his side, he could do anything.

My son began to blossom as teachers recognized his love for learning. He is like a sponge and soaks up knowledge in many subjects. We can go to him with questions about how something works and he often has the exact answer.

His gifts and talents also began to show. His love for music, art, fashion, philosophy, and astronomy has deepened as a result of being in a positive environment where teachers actually took an interest in my son's success.

I am so proud of my son! He didn't let obstacles and challenges stop him from reaching his goal, no matter what came his way. I'm also grateful to all the teachers and staff who helped cultivate the gifts and knowledge inside him. I look forward to seeing what the future has in store!

Congrats go out to you, son. You did it!
