I had brand new makeup that I hadn't used in years and it made me wonder how long should you keep your old makeup. I did a lot of research myself because I have spent good money on makeup and I didn't want to throw it away unless it was absolutely necessary.
Spring Clean Your Makeup Collection
Makeup - Eyeshadow, Blush, Bronzer, Lipstick, Foundation
Turns out that you don't want to hold onto old makeup because it can be a breeding ground for germs. Yuck! 6 months to a year for old makeup which seems pretty obvious but one year for even new in the package makeup. That was a bummer for me.
Beauty samples
I often get free beauty samples from places like Sephora, Ulta, and even Target, but how long do they last? If the sample was prepared for you in a store there is a chance for contamination and should be thrown out 3 to 6 months. I kept my brand new, still in the package beauty samples for a year. But six months if I have used it.
Skincare products
Because skin care products often have active ingredients in them, they can go bad rather quickly. You'll want to toss these out about every 3 to 6 months.
Mascara and eyeliner
Mascara and eyeliners are the same and can harbor bacteria and you don't want to play around when it comes to your eyes! These should be thrown out every 3 to 6 months as well.

Do you throw out your old makeup on a regular basis?
My daughter and I just went through my makeup stuff yesterday to see what we needed to keep and throw away. Great reminder to do so
ReplyDeleteI don't do a good job of cleaning as often as I should. Thanks for the reminder and tips.
