My daughter and I loved attending both of these women of color expos last year and we knew we would have to clear our schedules and get there by any means necessary. So with granddaughter #1 in tow, we made our way to the hair and beauty events and looked forward to a weekend just for us.
Day 1 - Saturday
First stop was the Shades on Beauty Expo at the St. Paul River Centre. Last year, I really enjoyed the presentation and fashion show on dressing for your body shape. This year, it was all about wearing the right colors for your skin shade.
Miss Latoya Bell of Brilliant Chic showed us examples of colors that don't look good on us and which colors flatter our skin tones.
The top left is an example of colors not to wear and the top right are the more flattering colors. These ladies look great in their bold colors, don't they? Models wore clothing from Coco's Fashions and Boutique.
The lovely Rachelle Hurst rocked a peplum yellow dress.
The Shades of You fashion show was awesome. Ladies, you look beautiful!
We didn't get to stay for the Hair Crush Style Show but I caught a few of the hair models before we left.
Last years Shades of Beauty + Twin Cities Natural Hair & Beauty Expo
My favorite part of the weekend was visiting the Twin Cities Natural Hair & Beauty Expo.
Minnesota's natural hair community is growing and it's a blessing to see so many sistahs celebrating and embracing natural hair.
This year, the Twin Cities Natural Hair & Beauty Expo was held at the Graduate hotel on the U of M campus.
Just a few of the vendors that were selling their wares at the expo including The Beauty Lounge, Chocolate Chick Apparel, and so many others. My daughter and I had to do a little shopping of course.
Houston White, owner of Black Excellence and H. White Barbershop in North Minneapolis.
This year, TCNHBE introduced The Men's Cave which was sponsored by Black Excellence. It highlighted beard care and grooming tips. Oh, and the brothas strutted their stuff and showed us how black men are down for the natural hair movement too with their dreadlocks and full beards.
The sistahs in the house went crazy for these bearded brothers including former professional athlete Troy Bell.
Then it was time for the main event. The Royal Hairitage Fashion show!
Wakanda was definitely in the house this year as the fashion show theme and these sistahs looked regal in their beautiful African attire.
Taking a quick picture of our hair growth. Our natural hair has really grown from last year!
We had an amazing time at both the Shades of Beauty and Twin Cities Natural Hair & Beauty Expos. Next year we'll pack a lunch and leave the kids at home so we can stay all day!
Did you get a chance to go to the Shades of Beauty or TCNHB Expo? Have you been to an event like this in your town?
