Shades of Beauty + Twin Cities Natural Hair & Beauty Expo

Living in Minneapolis, we don't get much in the way of events for women of color. We've had a few in the past but I always envy cities like Chicago and Atlanta for all they offer their black community.

Well, last  weekend showed me that the Twin Cities are now on the map! We had not one, but two women of color expos. The Shades of Beauty Expo and The Twin Cities Natural Hair Expo. I'm going to do my best to share what I learned, this may get long so stay with me.

Shades of Beauty Expo

On Saturday, my daughter and I headed to St. Paul, MN for the Shades of Beauty Expo held at the Excel Center. It was really encouraging to see sisters embracing their beauty.

We watched a fashion show that featured women of all sizes and shapes and learned how to dress for our body type.

The Hair Whisperer shared her Texture Talk. She broke down how to determine your hair type and take care of your curls.

Latoya Bell of Brilliant Chic was the presenter of the Curvy Girl's Style Guide fashion show.
 Go Latoya!

The Shades of Beauty Expo was excellent! We really enjoyed all the teaching that came forth and were able to learn quite a bit. The venue was very spacious and well put together. I feel like more women should have been there.

The Twin Cities Natural Hair & Beauty Expo

The Twin Cities Natural Hair Expo was lit! My sistahs came from the north, south, east, and west for this event that was all about celebrating women with natural hair.

The venue was jam packed with vendor tables and women of all kinds. There were so many women that at times you couldn't hear the speakers but it was all good. Next year, I'd like to see them get a bigger space so that folks have a little more room. But I loved the upbeat energy of this natural hair expo.

Jaiologie sharing the basic steps on how she takes care of her natural hair using the L.O.C. method.

Me, taking a quick pic with blogger Jaiologie.

Keynote speaker Isis Harmon who is originally from the Twin Cities, shared how far natural hair has really come. Especially in Minnesota!

You know I had to get a picture with Hype Hair's Digital Editor Isis who was giving me Yolanda Adams vibes all day! I had a bomb video of her but I recorded it wrong. If I can fix it, I'll share it.

My favorite part of the expo was the hair and fashion show! Yass!

It was so exciting to see so many women of color rocking their natural hair. It made me proud to be a part of this community.

My lovely daughter and I proudly sporting our natural tresses. We had such a wonderful time and can't wait to see what's in store for next year!

Have you been to any beauty and hair expos in your town?
