February Essence Beauty Box Subscription - An Honest Review

Hey girlfriends! I'm a huge fan of Essence Magazine and when I heard that they had a subscription box, I knew I would eventually want to try it out. I decided to purchase the African American monthly subscription box and if I didn't like it, I could always cancel.

I ordered the box in January but because of the cut off date, I would have to wait until February to receive it. I got my beauty box in the middle of the month.

The February theme is Shine Like A Star which features products that are suppose to help you be camera ready.

Here's what I received:

Coverfx Mattifying Primer with Anti-Aging Treatment - a lightweight gel primer. I don't wear a lot of foundation or makeup so I probably won't get a lot of use out of this sample.

Miss Jessie's Coily Custard - for natural curls. We've been using Miss Jessie's products in my house for a while now because my boys have natural curly hair. I'm going to save this sample for when I decide to do a wash and go to see what it does to my short, tapered hair.

Soft Sheen Carson Soak It Up Oil Cocktail - for hydration without the greasy build up.  This oil smells so good! I'm not natural so I'm really not sure how to use this on my relaxed hair. I did however add use it as a moisturizer and my hair soaked it up like a sponge. I'll have to do some investigating on this one.

Iman Luxury Lip Shimmer - high shine gloss. I was really hoping to receive a nude gloss so that I could try a nude lip look and guess what I got? Yep. It's very pigmented too.

Kiss Lashes & Eyes Lash Glue - Natural looking falsies. I can't get the hang of false eyelashes and this is my third  free pair of these. I may have my daughter who is an eye lash pro come and help her mama out.

Colgate Optic White Toothpaste - A whitening toothpaste that is suppose to work in just one week. I love this stuff so I'll use all of this.

Real Talk

This was a decent beauty box but nothing jumped out to me. I do really like the oil because it smells great, and of course I'll use the toothpaste. I have yet to find a nude lipstick or lip gloss that is flattering on me so I won't use it much.

Subscription boxes are a lot of fun and I love the fact that this one is geared toward African american women, but I don't think I will keep my subscription because I don't want to waist my $15 a month on hit or miss beauty products. I'd much rather take that money and invest it in new beauty products or products I know I would enjoy trying.

What do you think about subscription beauty boxes? Have you tried the Essence Beauty box? Do tell!
