There is a myth in the African American community that black people don't need sunscreen. Girlfriend, this is just not true. Not only do we need sunscreen, but black skin can get sunburn too. Ask me how I know!
This summer, we've been out about enjoying our summer activities. Now, I like a golden tan just as much as anybody but I'm also sure that I keep sunscreen handy for the kids and I. Especially when our day calls for long periods int he sun.
Sometimes we get so busy that we forget to apply our sunscreen. I welcome anything that can help a sistah out. Trying Coola sunscreen spray just made sense. It's easy and doesn't take a lot of time. We can just spray it on and go. Plus, I love that it's made with natural ingredients. Who doesn't like that.

In my kit I received:
- Eco-Lux SPF 50 Guava Mango Sunscreen Spray $36
- Mineral Sport SPF 50 Tinted Sunscreen Stick $26
- Face SPF 30 Makeup Setting Spray $36
- Liplux SPF 15 Peppermint Vanilla $12
I usually don't wear a lot of makeup in the summertime but I love the idea that I can stay protected with this COOLA Makeup Setting Spray.
The COOLA Mineral Sport Tint will also give your skin a glow while keeping you protected from the sun. I seriously need to keep this in my purse or summer car kit. That way I always have it with me.
My Thoughts
It has a very fruity scent that is reminiscent of super ripe peaches to me. Sprays on for quick and easy application.
My favorite item in the kit is the COOLA Peppermint Vanilla Liplux. I'm a lip balm fanatic and this will get a lot of use this summer and beyond.

Loving these products and glad you are too. Fun in the sun with protection is key to preventing all kinds of skin problems.
ReplyDeleteRight! Everyone needs to protect their skin.
DeleteI get sunburned all the time, so it must definitely be a myth. I would love to try the liplux. It sounds promising. Great review as usual!
ReplyDeleteI may have to check this line out. I use sunscreen on myself and the boys, but the scent of mine is so horrible. I could use something with a more tolerable fragrance.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget when I got sunburned! Listening to Mr. M telling me black people don't burn had my skin on fire for days. Then, my skin was peeling like a snake. Wearing sunscreen is a must for all skin types.

Because I am from Alabama, and now I live in the mountains I feel like I can never get a sun. I didn't know I should consider using sun tan lotion. I will remember this when we head further South for Essence Festival. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYesss! Black people get burned too. I used to always get burned when I was little and everyone would act like it was some weird anomaly lol. This is awesome. I really need to try out that lip balm because my lips are usually the first thing to burn every summer. I wonder if it has beeswax in it though ?? (I'm allergic)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Coola products. I need to stock up on the spray. Its wild that so many AA people don't think we need sunscreen. I got sunburned badly in Martinique because I forgot to reapply.
ReplyDeleteI've used COOLA Sunscreen in the past, and love it. Not using sunscreen isn't only done by the African American community, there are people in the Caribbean who don't believe in it either.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Coola products, but they seem like fun events! We always use Sunscreen...well the kids and I but I always have a tough time getting my husband to use it. He thinks since he is dark skin he doesnt need any but that not true!
ReplyDeleteI too learned the hard way, and it was a painful lesson. I have learned the error of my ways. I need to try this.
