OPI Spare Me A French Quarter + Experiment with OPI Infinite-Shine 3

Painting my nails is my favorite way to pamper myself. When I need 5 minutes of me time, I grab a bottle and paint away.

Today, I wanted to share my latest spring manicure.  OPI New Orleans Spare Me a French Quarter?
plus a little experiment.

While in ULTA the other day, I asked if they had the OPI Gel nail lacquer and they didn't have it in yet. I've been on the hunt for a easy at home gel nail polish that I can do without using lights. OPI has 3 steps to their Gel nail system and I didn't want to spend $35 trying to achieve long lasting nails.

So I got to thinking...

What would happen if I bought the regular OPI nail polish and applied the OPI Infinite-Shine 3 gloss over it? I decided to purchase it and see what happened.

I first applied the OPI Infinite Shine Gel Effects Nail Polish Lacquer System - 3. Then, I followed up with two coats of the OPI New Orleans 2016 Collection Spare Me a French Quarter?. Lastly, I again applied the OPI Infinite-Shine 3 gloss.

I noticed that my nails had crazy shine all day.

But....

Day two? Oh boy. My nail chipped something fierce and began to peel off in chunks!

OPI nail polish can chip faster than my other nail polishes, but not this fast. I really believe that I should not have applied the OPI Infinite-Shine 3 gloss as a base. What I could have done is apply a regular base coat then follow with the OPI nail laquer and OPI Infinite-Shine 3 gloss. Oops!

Stacie Sayz, "This experiment was a flop!"

That's what happens when you try to cheat the system! But OPI Spare Me a French Quarter? is a beautiful color for spring and I'll continue to use it. The real way.

Have you ever tried to use gel nail polish topcoats over your regular nail polish? What were your results?

  1. Interesting experiment. I'd like to see how it works with a regular base coat instead. #ProductReviewParty

  2. That's the color I picked when I went & got a pedicure recently. I love it. Awe, sorry your experiment didn't work. I wish I didn't wreck my nails all the time just so I could wear polish and have them look as nice as yours. Good to know when I apply it myself.

  5. I love that you experiment with things :-). Too bad this was a fail, the color looks good. I used to love a weekly manicure and pedicure. They are super expensive here though, like $40 for manicure..so..no..now l wear clear and splurge when l go away and do spa days..

    1. That's the very reason I do my nails at home. So expensive!

  6. Me too...I'd love to see if it would work with a regular base coat. The jury is still out on gel nail colors and the salon gel system. Something about those lights bother me...lol I love OPI colors and that one is cute for spring.

    1. The OPI color by itself is so pretty and it hasn't chip as bad as when I applied the top coat. Go figure.

  8. Nope, I haven't tried to do that, but it would have been awesome if that actually worked. I am surprised that opi Polish chips that fast. I do love the color you are wearing.

    1. It really only chipped because of the top coat as a base. Guess that's a no no.

  9. I love your nail color and hate that it chipped so fast! My polish always does that so I usually stick to gel.

  11. That's such a beautiful polish color! You're really good at doing your nails yourself. I suck at it and just go to the nail shop. And I almost never use color on my nails because I hate when my nails chip and I don't like using gel although it lasts so well.

    1. Aw, thank you sis. I feel you. Chipped polish is the worst.

  12. Wow! You know I have the opposite experience using OPI polishes; they outlast any other polish brand I've used. My polish doesn't chip for at least a week. I did like the shine, but it sucks it didn't last.

    1. It's because I used the top coat as a base. That's why it chipped so bad.

  13. Gorgeous color at least! I can totally relate to the gel nails chipping right away! That happened to me with the Sally Hansen gel nail polish! Now, I just stick with getting my nails done, more expensive, but lasts way longer, lol!
