It's Manicure Monday and that means it's time to look at another new nail polish. I've been hunting for an at home gel nail polish. See the other brands I tried here and here.
Next on my list of gel nail polish to try at home was the Essie Gel Setter that I picked up from Target. When I saw this on sale in the ad, I hurried to my local store to pick it up. A Gel Nail polish that can go on any Essie polish is just what I need. In fact, I wonder can I use it on any nail polish brand? We'll have to see.
In the mean time, I wanted to share my thoughts on Essie Private Weekend with the Essie Gel Setter Top Coat.
Real Talk
First, I will say that Essie Private Weekend was very streaky. It took me three coats to achieve the above look. I don't own a white nail polish so I was glad to add it to my nail polish arsenal.
Secondly, there's a slight glittery shimmer to this polish that you can't really see that makes it harder to get off, just a heads up.
Now on to the Gel Setter Top Coat. My nails began to chip the very next day which is how normal nail polish works for me. That was very disappointing! I had hoped it would last as long as the other gel nail polish brands I have been trying, but no such luck. After four days, it had chipped badly and began peeling off my actual nail! I had to take it off right away.
I like the idea that I can use this Gel Setter Top Coat over my Essie nail polishes and it may last longer, but I don't want it to damage my nails in the process. I do wonder if applying it over three coats made a difference or not? It shouldn't have, but I'm not sure.
I will try it again over a different color before I rule it out altogether.
Have you tried the new Essie Gel Setter Top Coat yet?
I love white nail polish!!
ReplyDeleteIt's different but something I wanted to try out.
DeleteThat is not good at all, I'll be avoiding this nail polish. #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's not. I would have expected it to last way longer.
DeleteWhite polish is a bear to apply, hopefully you will have better luck with another color. #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteAin't that the truth Antionette! Hopefully it works better with something else.
DeleteOh, that's disappointing :(. I guess I will pass on both of these. I don't have a white nail polish in my collection either... I just realized that.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably cute with the right outfit. I'll keep using it for decorations and such.
DeleteI have not tried many nail polishes before. I typically do not do my nails. On occasion I will when I have a special occasion come up.
ReplyDeleteDoing my nails is my favorite way to pamper myself. :)
DeleteLove the different nail color. I have try different colors all the time.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were very honest about your review! I guess I will skip on this top coat...I am still seeking a very strong bondin top coat and shiny!
ReplyDeleteThats a great color but I have never tried Essie (of all of the nail polishes I have). Thanks for sharing Essie is very popular and surprisingly I do not know anything about this brand.
ReplyDeleteNail polish...what can I say I only own 5 bottles and that is because my daughter loves it. I don't do anything with my poor nails...never. I gotta do better
ReplyDeleteThis is good to know. I never use regular nail polish because it chips. I get gel manicures but not often since they damage my nails. Too bad the gel setter doesn't sound like a good option.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Gelous Gel Base Coat? I think the brand it American Beauty Standard (or something like that)! I have it and when I take the time to apply it properly, I find that it works really well! There are a bunch of tuts on it on Youtube, too! Your post reminds me that I want to get some white polish.
ReplyDeleteGood to know! Thanks for the honest review!
ReplyDeleteI really like using Essie nail polish when I actually polish my nails. I think the white looks really cute on you.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a fan of Essie polish, and white has been my go to color for a couple of years now. I've had zero luck with gel polish.
ReplyDeleteI love white manicure but I always a get a fail when I try it myself. I usually get it at the Salon. maybe give it a few more tries and see.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I polished my names. What a shame! I do love Essie colors though. They have some of the prettiest subtle hues.
ReplyDeleteGlitter is always difficult to get off. Thanks for that crucial heads up. I can't see the glitter from the photos. I love a white nail polish.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried Essie's products, but they look pretty good. I'm a fan of nice nails... that is when I actually have time to do them!
ReplyDeleteI just grabbed a white polish in a marked down bin at the grocery store, so I don't have the highest hopes on the outcome.
ReplyDeleteI'm also not as familiar with Essie polishes. The price usually puts me off. I've found only the salon gel polishes live up to the hype.
